IP67 Panel Mount with Switch Connectors

DC jack that offers mate detection capabilities while maintaining a standard inline connector form factor.

Tensility, a leading provider of electrical connectors, has released a new dc jack that offers mate detection capabilities while maintaining a standard inline connector form factor. The connector's design allows for a normally closed switch to open before electrical contact is made between the jack and mating plug, making it an ideal solution for engineers and product designers.

The dc jack is available in both 2.1 mm and 2.5 mm center pin options and can be purchased as stand-alone connectors, panel mount connectors, or panel mount solutions with 1-foot leads (305 mm). The panel mount overmold material is a liquid crystal polymer (LCP) selected for its wide temperature range and water resistance. The connectors denoted with the additional IP67 rating are waterproof through the panel, but not in a mated state.

  • FAQs

How does the mate detection work?

Inside the connector, there is a normally closed switch. The switch opens as the plug is inserted into the jack, and before electrical contact is made. Removing the plug closes the internal switch. This switch acts as the indicator for mate detection.

What plugs are compatible with these jacks?

    What is an open circuit?

An open circuit is one where continuity has been broken.

Why would I want mate detection capabilities?

    • PCB design
    • Track connection lifespan via number of mating cycles.
    • Power source recognition

Are there any dust caps available for these connectors?

The recommended dust cap for 54-00310, 54-00311, 10-05157, and 10-05158 is part number 55-00111
